Chapter 8

The smell of gunpowder was sharp and sour, its scent filled your nostrils as you opened your tightened eyes to see you were still alive. Your shoes slipped in the gooey ruby red blood trailing ever so close to surrounding your chair, you followed the stream with your eyes eventually locking on the open cold eyes of your captor’s dead smile still gleaming at you. You took a moment before looking at Sherlock, his shoulders rising with every breath he took.

“Y/n it’s okay you're safe now.” John stepped over the body and began un-tying your wrists. You didn’t say anything, you were trying to make sense of what the hell just happened, he found you.

You watched him stare at the body, you hadn’t seen this side of Sherlock, he was confused and almost looked scared.

“I don’t understand, why would he kill himself?” he said, pushing the body with his foot.

“That doesn’t matter now, I called the police. They should be here to meet us any second, let's just focus on getter y/n out of here, she’s got a pretty nasty mark on her head.” John helped you out of your seat and the pair led you outside where Greg and an army of police and medics were waiting for you outside.

You were ushered to an ambulance and wrapped in a blanket, the medic spent time fussing over your head, but at this point you didn’t notice it.

“He didn’t save me.” you muttered to yourself. As strange as it was, the only person you should be thanking is Moriarty, he was the one who dealt the final blow.

“Can you give me a detailed description of what happened?” Sherlock stood over you, his eyes locked on your own. He needed answers, he needed them now.

“Leave her alone, she’s in shock.” Greg pulled Sherlock away but his lecture was interrupted by a cautiously approaching detective.

“Sir” he paused

“Go on, spit it out!” Sherlock interrupted, the detective looked at Greg confused.

“Ignore him, what's the problem?” he sighed

“It’s gone.”

“What's gone?” Greg stood perplexed

“The body sir, it's gone.”

“I don't understand, you said he shot himself?” Greg turned to Sherlock who lit up 

“Yes! I knew it, he wouldn’t just kill himself like that.” he clapped his hands together in delight

“So all that was for nothing, to confuse you for twenty minutes?” you added stopping Sherlocks celebration

“You’re mad at me?” 

“Of course I am, you could have just shot him. But you didn't, what the hell! Is everyone I know a psychopath?”

“Actually it's high functioning sociopath, but yes one way or another.”

“I don’t believe you. Can someone just take me home?” You stand up leaving the blanket on the pavement.

“Y/n wait, you’re in shock clearly.” Sherlock followed behind trying to place the blanket around your shoulders, you turn and stop him in his tracks with a harsh slap across his face. His hand covered the flaming area as he watched you walk away looking for a ride home. “Maybe I deserved that.” he muttered to himself.

John helped you find a way home, accompanying you in a police car and making you a cup of tea while you listened to your aunt's cries on how much she missed you.

“He doesn’t mean to upset you.” John sat besides you refilling your cup.

“Doesn’t always seem that way.” you say rolling your eyes to Mary who sat across from you.

“What John is trying to say is, Sherlock doesn't understand the way he feels about you. And we all know how much he enjoys his cases.” 

“What do you mean the way he feels about me, he doesn't care about anyone.”

“Y/n we saw the video of you two, he has to have some form of emotion towards you, even Irene Adler couldn’t accomplish that.” John added

“Irene Adler had to flee the country, I'm sure she would have. And the video, that reminds me.” you got up dragging a chair behind you. You placed the chair down and used it to pull the camera down from the ceiling. 

“What a creep.” Mary stated

“Believe me it gets worse.” you went around the apartment removing all the cameras Moriarty managed to hide from you. It felt good finally doing something about the situation, his body was gone which meant he would absolutely come after you again, to flirt or to finish the job. You didn’t want either of those things.

 Finally you made it to your room, everything was the same apart from your laptop. “Shit shit shit!” your laptop was destroyed in the explosion, your writing, your work are all gone. Then you remembered university, the paper was due yesterday. Surely the fact that you were kidnapped was a good enough excuse and now it was the end of term,you had two weeks of waiting before you could find out if you were still somehow able to go. But after both drugs incidents you didn’t think the university board liked you very much. You stared at your room. It was exactly the same, Mycroft had left it for a change. You saw the tip of your bridesmaid dress poking through the gap of your closet, the wedding was in twelve days and you’d barely prepared yourself to put the outfit together, the dress was chosen for you but everything else? Well that was a mystery. Your thoughts were interrupted by a knock at the door.

“Y/n can I come in?” Sherlocks deep voice rattled your ears, he knocked he never usually did.

“I don’t want to be around you right now, I don’t need the sarcasm.” you spat back

“What sarcasm?” he asked confused

“Go away sherlock.”

“Nevermind, I'm not going. If you wont open the door i’ll just say it” Sherlock stood behind the door his face close to the door ensuring every word could be heard, he shuffled at his feet clutching the portion of chips he bought close to his chest. He was nervous, he couldn’t explain the feeling it was new to him, his stomach was knotted and his brow was sweaty. “I don’t have girlfriends and I certainly don't have physical relationships with people. I think the very idea of committing to a person's mind, body and if it exists soul, i don’t like the fact someone is constantly relying on you or wanting to be around you, the very thought of it repulses me. But then I met you and I agree yes at first that opinion still stood. I failed to connect the logic of a relationship to the reason, until I met you. I would say this goes against all my morals but I have very few of them, but to me if I had a relationship with someone I’d consider it a crime almost. It was the one thing me and my gastly brother could agree on, but then I never thought about a relationship with you, it's a crime I know but it’s my favourite crime” his mouth was dry he gulped waiting for your reply but nothing, he bowed his head and sighed heavily “I’m sorry for what I did, maybe I- maybe I was wrong. I should’ve protected you when I had the chance too” The door handle clicked as it turned and opened slowly revealing your warm glossy eyes staring at his how, you were sure but you might have even seen tears beginning to form at the corners of his.

“Do you really mean it?” you smile

“Every word.” those words where all you needed to hear your eyes moved from his to his lips, you moved in closer but he just grabbed you and pulled you in for a desperate kiss. 

His hands ran through your hair, dropping the chips he had bought for you. It was at this moment you felt safe, you had imagined it so many times in your head but it never felt like this. And that's when it ended, his arms no longer felt safe, they felt dangerous, caring for him had already cost so much, your education, your future and nearly your life. You pulled away breaking his grasp,

“What's wrong?” he asked his pupils dilated at the sight of your fear

“I can’t do this.” you say gripping your arm

“Do what? What's wrong?” he came closer trying to hold you again but you stepped away

“Think logically Sherlock, this isn’t safe. Look at who you are and look at your enemies, people get hurt not just me but what if it was John or Mrs Hudson. Moriarty knows he can get into your head. I know it's selfish but us being together is dangerous for you and for the people we love.” Sherlock went quiet for a moment, he was deducing his options, he had to make human decisions,

“I can stop him, I’ll find him.” 

“You were looking for him for over a year, Moriarty can only be found when he wants to be. We both know that.”

“You’re right, this an irrational decision, Mycroft is right I can't deal with these kinds of emotions. I’m too smart, here.” he handed you the chips, brushing off his jacket and headed downstairs.

The rest of the night was quiet, only filled with the sounds of Sherlocks soft tune, he played for hours, thinking. Mycroft is right, ordinary people make stupid decisions and Sherlock wasn’t ordinary. He was a high functioning sociopath, and he liked it.

Hi! I would like to request a Tewksbury x fem’Reader (romantic)! Reader is Enola Holmes’ sister

So basically, I was hoping for this to take place in Enola Holmes 2 in the theater fight scene. If you remember, Enola almost gets stabbed, but her corset protected her. So what if it was reader instead, and the corset didn’t protect her? Reader does finish the fight like in the movie because she’s just a girlboss like that and has that whole moment with Tewksbury after, but the stab wound finally takes its toll. That’s sort of just the base of the idea, you can do whatever you come up with after that! I sort of think of this as an angst + fluff? Thank you!

Everything went by in a blur. You were fighting alongside Tewkesbury and Enola, dodging weapons and fists. The next thing you know, you’re on the floor, wind knocked out of you.

A loud crack rings out and you feel an intense pounding in your head, so you guess you must have hit it when you fell back. As you begin to stand, you feel a dull ache in your ribs. You look down to see the cause, and you thank the heavens that you’re wearing one of those god-awful corsets you've always hated so much. Shouldn’t leave more than a nasty bruise.

You hear Tewksbury —who’s still fighting from across the room— call out your name to make sure you’re alright, but you don’t have time to respond. Your sister reaches a hand out to help you up off the floor as she dodges a hit. A bit preoccupied in a fight of her own she misses the silver handle sticking out of your corset.

“Are you alright?” she screams over the chaos.

You stand firm on your feet, still staring down your opponent. “Fine. Just a little fall, nothing I can’t handle.” Pulling the blade from your abdomen, you miss the red glint of blood as you resume the fight.

The battle is over, and the energy is high. You and Tewkesbury bounce off the walls blabbering on about the recent events, adrenaline running through you while Enola concludes the investigation with your brother, Sherlock.

“Did you see me! I got some really good ones in there. Think I got him in the nose!”

You laugh, breath like shard of glass in your lungs from the cold, "You were wonderful! Just like I showed you."

He beams at that, his cheeks glowing a warm pink, which he hopes could be chalked up to the biting chill outside, “You didn’t do so bad out there yourself.”

“Not bad?” you scoff, "You must have missed the look on that guy’s face when I threw him across the room!"

You both laugh softly, your breath visible in the winter air. You ignore the tight feeling in your lungs.

Suddenly you’re both hyper aware of the lack of space between you. Looking between his cold pink lips and his glassy doe eyes, you hold your breath as he begins to lean closer.

Just as you feel his intoxicating lips graze yours, your knees buckle beneath you. You try to steady yourself against Tewksbury, hand pressed against his chest, as he quickly grabs your waist to hold you up. He chuckles a bit as he tries to help you regain your footing, but immediately stops when notices that you’re practically limp in his hold.

“What's wrong? Talk to me.”

It feels like your chest is collapsing in on itself, and your head starts to spin. “Oh- I’m fine. Just cold.” Mostly reassuring yourself, nothing bad could happen right? You won after all. You beat them. Your family is safe and your best friend that you've been in love with for years is finally kissing you. Those are all good things. Really good things. So it's just the cold making you feel weak and breathless, right?

“I’m just really, really tired.”

Just as you begin to stand up straighter, sharp pain shoots through your stomach and your knees buckle again, causing Tewkesbury to almost fall over. He panics when he hears a gasp that sounds too much like you’re in pain.

“Enola! Something’s wrong!”

Enola and Sherlock stop their current debate and immediately notice your uncharacteristically frail state, rushing over to help Tewkesbury get you on the ground. They sit you down as quickly as possible without hurting you, your back to Tewksbury’s chest so he can keep you stable. His shaky hand tremble against your hips as he surveys your body for injuries. Enola kneels to be eye-level with you, “What's going on? Are you hurt?”

"No-" You nod your head, "I'm fine, I just-" you cut yourself short, unable to create a more convincing reply as a groan of pain rips through you. Thats when Enola notices a deep tear in your dress.

“Her corset. Take off her corset!”

Enola and Sherlock work to quickly remove the thick article of clothing, Tewksbury squeezing your hand reassuringly when you wince at the movement of him lifting your arms. Once the corset is successfully removed, a deep cut reveals itself, crimson red seeping through your under-dress. "Oh my god-"

You look up, the concern in Tewkesbury’s voice making you nervous. “What is it? Is something wrong?”

Enola grabs your focus when she presses her hands against your wound.

"Oh..."

Sherlock frantically removes his coat to tie around you and try to stop the bleeding. “Nothing's wrong. Nothing at all. You’re going to be just fine.” He rambles out, trying to calm both you and himself.

In your hazy state you can't fully sense the anxiety all around you, or how serious your injury truly is. You only register one thing. You’re going to be just fine. Your brother would never lie to you. Not ever.

Your breathing begins to slow as you relax, leaning your head back against Tewkesbury's shoulder. You begin to feel your own shoulder dampen. Looking over at the cause, you see Tewksbury’s face tacked with glistening streaks down his cheeks, staring at Enola and Sherlock frantically try to stop the bleeding as he helps where he can.

“Tewks?” His eyes jump to yours, sniffling. “What's the matter? Why are you crying?”

Much to your dismay, that makes him cry harder. "Nothing’s the matter."

You reach a weak hand up to wipe tears from his cheek as more roll down in their place. “Then why are you crying?”

There’s a long pause, your sibling’s desperate shouting falling deaf on your ears as a faint ringing replaces it. "I’m just so proud of you is all."

You smile at that, "I'm proud of you too, fighter." You tease. He chuckles weakly, not surprised that your wit is still intact even as you're bleeding out. Your eyes begin to feel heavy as you stare into his, eyelids fluttering open and closed.

“Hey! Hey, keep your eyes open for me. Just a little bit longer.” He stammers, squeezing your hand to keep you awake. "We just need a few more minutes. Just a few more minutes, and then you can rest, alright?"

You groan in discomfort, feeling all of your energy go into the one simple task as your body begins to feel floaty and numb. “Tired.”

“I know, I know. Just a little longer. I promise everything will be fine. I promise. Just please, don’t close your eyes.” He sobs out desperately, interlacing his fingers with yours.

Enola and Sherlock keep trying everything in their power to stop the bleeding, sobbing and begging for anything to work. For you to be okay. You try your best to keep your eyes open for them, you really do, but it’s just too difficult. You can hear distant shouts of your name as you finally let the peaceful darkness consume you.

Luckily, Sherlock is there to comfort and support you along the way, though your mind is intent on bullying you and causing you anxiety for the future and everything in between.

Gentle Love - Sherlock Holmes is not the best at expressing his emotions, let alone how to help you when you are going through a rough day. Years ago, he discovered that washing your hair was one of the ways he liked to show his care and adoration, especially when words fail him, and he cannot fully express his love for you.

Weariness & Passion - Sherlock comforts you after a rough day and you want nothing more than to be near him, holding him close and kissing him.

To Ease Such Panic - Sherlock comforts you after a night of panicking and he helps ease your mind and worries.

Heavy is the Burden - After a long day of errands and classes, you finally return home seeking solace and basking in the warmth of Sherlock.

A Single Touch - A peaceful afternoon in 221B takes a turn when you become insistent on needing Sherlock's attention and he indulges.

Give Me One More Chance (Request) - How many chances is enough? For you, you’ve reached your breaking point and break the news to Sherlock after feeling neglected in an on again off again relationship with him, if that’s even what you can call it. (Angst NO Comfort)

Forget Me Not (Request) - Sherlock is worried about you and comes to comfort you.

Hold Me Close (Short Blurb) - Sherlock senses your stress and brings you to bed to help ease your worries as you strokes his curls.

Won’t You Stay? - Starting a new semester always has it downfalls and shortcomings, but Sherlock is there to hold you through the worst of times, especially to help combat your greatest foe - your mind. 

Corrupted Evidence (Request) - You accidentally messed up with some evidence Andersons when Sherlock brings you with him to a crime scene. Sherlock gets mad at Anderson and stands up for you.

Never Idle - Being a workaholic has its downsides and Sherlock, the poor lad, does his best trying to get you to relax, even though he isn’t well versed in healthy ways to cope with day-to-day life and boredom.

Desperation Calls (Short Blurb) - After dragging Sherlock to a night you're receiving an award at work; he whisks away to ravish you.

Birthday Boy - A short blurb involving my beloved detective. This is kinda rushed and scattered since I should've been in bed hours ago but I'll probably do another birthday surprise for him sometime later. Cheers

Adorable Otters (Strawberry!Sherlock) - Sherlock tries to grab your attention to show you some otters.

Hold my Heart for it Bleeds (Request) - Soft Sherlock drags you to his room and curls up with you on his bed after a really bad day. He doesn’t say anything, just clings to you as he silently cries into your neck, not wanting you to see just how horrible he feels but also needing to close to you.

Feeding Sherlock (Blurb) - You use your wiles to convince Sherlock to eat something after days of him forgetting to sustain himself.

Tangled Sheets (Short Blurb) - Being tangled in the sheets with Sherlock, you can't help but give him kisses, and perhaps something more.

Must be the Late Night Talking (Blurb) - Nothing to see here but another blurb. I apologize if it seems scattered, but writing has been keeping me going pretty much for the last couple of days as a form of comfort so...yeah this happened. We’re also going to ignore that this is 1.1k+ words so yes, it’s a blurb. 

For Once (Short Blurb) - Registering for classes is a pain in the ass and I’m stuck in a pickle as I’m trying to graduate soon, so this blurb is a big anger outlet where Sherlock tries to help out.

Forever Yours (Kinktober 2022) - You’ve had a long day at work, Sherlock is out on a long case and yet he comes home early to surprise you and give comfort. 

Fire & Ice (Kinktober 2022) - Sherlock decides to try out a new experiment with you involving some ice. Needless to say, you both enjoy it, finding comfort in each other’s arms not long after.

I’ll Take Care of You (Strawberry!Sherlock - Kinktober 2022) - You grow desperate for Sherlock’s presence and when he’s not in bed with you the early hours of the morning you start to worry, but when you wake the second time, you are pleased to find him safe and sound in your arms. You then decide to take matters into your own hands and show/tell him how much he means to you. 

Strength to Carry On (Short Blurb) - You get overwhelmed and don’t feel like you have the strength to do anything but fall into Sherlock’s arms for comfort. Everything feels like too much. 

After the Storm (Strawberry!Sherlock -request) - Strawberry!Sherlock comforts you after a thunderstorm causes you to panic and you hurt yourself.
